In Prosopis cineraria (L.) Mac bride technique on air layering was developed successfully at Central Arid Zone .Research institute, Jodhpur. 100 per cent success was achieved in the twigs of 15 mm diameter treated with Seradix B 3 clay and covered with clay during the month of july and August. Profuse ischolar_maining and better establishment was observed in twigs or around 15 mm diameter.For best results, attempting air layering in July, detaching from mother tree in September and transplanting in field in the month of November would be useful under arid conditions.

Commiphora wightii (Arn.) Bhan. known as Indian bdellium is a large shrub of family Burseraceae. Its oleo-gum resin is known to be anti-inflammatory, antirheumatic, hypocholesterolmic, hypolipidemic, and antifertility agent. In order to extract more oleo-gum resin it has been overtapped in past, killing its natural populations thus prompting IUCN to keep it in 'Data Deficient category'. Its ex-situ conservation through seed as well as vegetative propagation has met with variable success. Seasoning of stem cuttings for a duration that ensures more sprouting and consequent survival was, therefore, aim of this study. Cut stem cuttings kept for 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 days and treated with IBA (5000 ppm) revealed that maximum ischolar_main biomass (0.56 g), maximum number of shoots (6) and length of shoots (49.50 cm) was found in five days seasoned stem cuttings. After 27 months of plantation maximum survival was found in four and five days seasoned stem cuttings (50% each) cuttings. Collar diameter (1.75 cm) was maximum in five day seasoned stem cuttings. Maximum plant height (119.75 cm) was in four days seasoned cuttings followed by five days seasoned cuttings (96 cm). Thus, four to five days of seasoning in the month of August emerged most optimum for sprouting of stem cuttings and their subsequent survival in field plantation.Keywords

Six promising tomato hybrids selected from a pool of 60 F1 hybrids were evaluated for seven traits, along with the check hybrid (TH-1) at two locations falling under different agro-climatic zones of Punjab, India. G × E interaction was significant for early yield, fruit weight and total fruit yield, whereas, it was non-significant for fruit number, locule number, pericarp thickness and vine length. Overall higher mean-early-yield, fruit number, fruit weight and total yield at Ludhiana, rather than at Bathinda, may be due to higher organic carbon, available phosphorus and available potash and low electrical conductivity of the experimental soil at Ludhiana. Pooled analysis showed that hybrid TH-21 had the maximum early-yield (3.73 tha-1), fruit weight (72.7 g) and locule number (2.65), whereas, TH-23 had the highest fruit number per vine (53.7) and total fruit yield (51.2 tha-1). The magnitude of pooled standard heterosis was maximum for vine length (140.7%), followed by early yield (114.8%), total yield (88.3%), fruit number (49.7%), fruit weight (27.6%), pericarp thickness (16.4%) and locule number (-21.6%). On the basis of stability and superiority for fruit weight, fruit number, early and total yield, TH-21 was found to be the most promising hybrid, followed by TH-23.Keywords
